State law requires that
all children between the ages of 6 and 16 are to be in attendance at
school each day that school is in session. Therefore, we ask that
parents have their children in regular attendance throughout the school
year. We also ask parents to ensure that their children are punctual in
their daily attendance. Habitual tardiness is considered a truancy
violation according to state law and is reportable to Human Services.
The school is
required to record
student attendance. It is reported to the parents on the report cards.
Attendance is recorded according to the following guidelines:
Not in classroom by 8:30 A.M. = tardy
More than one hour missing = 1/2 Day Absent
Late due to medical or dental appointment = Not
Tardy
Appointment over one hour = 1/2 Day Absent
Illness
If your child is going be absent
from school due to illness, please call the school office. If your
child does not come to school and we do not hear from you by the start
of the school day, you will be called to verify that your child is
absent. This is done to ensure that you know your child is not in
attendance that day.
Parents should not send a sick child to school. If your
child has a
fever or has been vomiting through the night, your child should remain
home. When children attend school, they should be well enough to
participate in all activities as well as go outside for recess.
If a teacher
determines that
a child is sick, the parents will be called to take their child home
for the day. If a parent cannot be reached, the emergency contact
person listed on the family information sheet will be called.
Children absent
from school
due to illness should not participate in school activities that
afternoon or evening. If a child was sick on Friday and feels better,
the child may participate in Saturday and Sunday activities.
Truancy
Excessive numbers of days absent
or tardy, which cause concern for the welfare of the child's education,
will be brought to the attention of the Principal and parents, the
Board of Education, the truancy officer, and then Human Services.
Family Vacations
If you plan an extended vacation
during the school year, please provide the school with ample notice. A
written (or emailed) notice should be given to the teachers by the
parent, not the student. Parents are responsible for the student
completing all the make-up work from this absence. The teachers may
adjust the assignments according to their discretion.
Church Attendance
Church attendance is an important
part of a Christian's spiritual life. Weekly church attendance enables
the Christian to gain the precious Word of Life which we all so
desperately need throughout the week. It also provides an opportunity
for the entire family to participate in the weekly worship service. To
assist the parents and teachers in noting the student's frequency of
attendance, church attendance will be taken by the teachers. This will
then be reported on the report cards. Attendance at a worship service
in a church outside the WELS or ELS will not be considered as
attendance. During the school year regular church services are held on
Wednesdays @ 7:00 P.M., Saturdays @ 5:30 P.M., and Sundays @ 8:00 &
10:45 A.M.
