Homework

  1. Bethany has a unified grading scale for all grades. This scale does not allow for greater levels of failure. Failure is failure. It does allow for work not completed in a timely manner (See Make-Up Work).
  2. Teachers are expected to correct student work in a timely manner. Teachers are also required to know whether a child has not been completing work in an acceptable manner. This means a child should not fall behind in work more than several school days before parents are notified.
  3. Teachers should keep in contact with parents concerning a student's work habits. Parents need to keep in contact with teachers by reviewing their child's work on a regular basis and making sure work is completed on time. Parents should feel free to inform the teacher of any concerns about homework (e.g.. amount of work, frustration of student or parent due to work).
  4. The Learning Coordinator guides teachers and parents through difficult situations. The Learning Coordinator is responsible for any student that needs special assistance. The Learning Coordinator can intervene in order to assist a struggling student with parental permission.
  5. Both midterm and quarterly report cards are sent to the parents. These are based on the performance of each student. Teachers keep a written grade book which can be used to verify a student's work.
  6. Student papers will be sent home in any manner that the teacher chooses.
  7. On occasion special programs will be set up for those students who need help in organizing their work and keeping parents informed. Any such program will be made in consultation with the parents.
  8. Parents and teachers need to recognize the importance of homework as a part of the academic program of Bethany Lutheran School. Homework needs to be age appropriate to be successful.
